Pet Calendar

I wrote the copy for this desk calendar on behalf of Hooray for the Underdog—a greeting card company that celebrates and supports pet rescue. They create fun greeting cards, stationery and gifts with exceptional images and inspiring profiles of the rescue dogs and cats they feature on their products. This calendar included researching and writing copy that delivered valuable advice and helpful resources for pet owners. As an animal lover myself, the work you see here was a memorable, fun and rewarding assignment.

Based in Dallas, Hooray for the Underdog was founded by two long-time creatives, stylist and art director Janet Healey, and photographer Joe Grisham. What started as an idea to photograph shelter animals to help them get adopted, turned into a Jack Russell Terrier rescue group dropping off 11 anxious and energetic canines running amok around their photo studio. By the end of the day, Janet and Joe “were hooked,” and the duo hatched a plan to use their backgrounds in advertising to make a difference in the way people perceive abandoned animals.

Love dog and cats, and miss the nostalgia of sending someone a handwritten note? Five percent of the company’s profits are donated to animal welfare charities.
