Pier 1 Imports*

For years, Pier 1 Imports was one of my primary and ongoing freelance writing clients. I helped drive sales as a catalog and digital copywriter, as well as crafted messaging for packaging, direct mail and landing pages. The year 2012 was especially exciting. Not only did I work for the creative team tasked with redesigning a new e-Commerce website—so loyal customers could shop 24/7—but it was the time when we all helped celebrate the company’s Golden Anniversary. In fact, the Mayor of Ft. Worth, Texas proclaimed November 28, 2012 as “Pier 1 Imports Day” in Cowtown.

As a consumer, I found there was much to love about Pier 1. The prices were reasonable, the products offerings stylish and fun, and the holiday décor always got me in spirit of the season by simply walking through a nearby store. We still enjoy our Papasan chair with its white faux fur cushion, and have too many wreaths and holiday accents to count.

The year 2020 proved challenging for many reasons, and the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Though it was a devastating blow, the brand has been brought back to life as an online-only retailer after being acquired by Retail Ecommerce Ventures.
